Physical Education and Rights: The Faculty of Physical Education in Tucumán Memory, Marks, and Silences

Abstract

This paper seeks to define the contextual framework in the Training of Physical Education Teachers, in relation to the loss of rights during the civic-military dictatorship. From current educational approaches, it aims to rethink how the perspective of Rights was constructed within Physical Education. The historical review of the institutionalization of Physical Education at the National University of Tucumán allows us to examine the creation of the program, its foundational principles, the role of its precursors, and their affinities with certain fields of knowledge that made possible the establishment and strengthening of the program and its training processes. An analysis is offered of the creation of the Physical Education program at UNT, the matrices of its origins, and the progress of the program until the Civic-Military Coup of 1976. In this context, the interpretation of the closure of the University School of Physical Education in 1976, to convert it into a Clandestine Detention Center, is deepened. It is argued that the creation of the program, its matrices, the respective curricular changes, the closure of the institution to install the clandestine detention center, and the subsequent appointment of two directors of the Institution from the military sphere, continue to shape the ways of understanding the processes of constructing rights within Physical Education.
